I keep hearing
that consumers are starting to spend again but
you would never know it the way some companies
are treating potential employees. Nowhere is this
more true than in Internet marketing where most
of the open jobs are for interns to implement
their social media strategy or managers to "put
stuff " on their website. As an important touch
point companies need senior people who both
understand marketing and the latest trends in

U.S. Workers Report an All-Time Low for Work Environment

The Work
Environment Sub-Index (WEI) dropped a further 0.9
percentage points to 48.0, an all-time low for
this key measure of one of the primary components
of quality of life within the U.S.. The WEI is
based on a series of four questions, specifically
designed to gauge the feelings and perceptions of
U.S. workers about their work environment. It's
easy to see why this is trending down in today's
job and employment market.

Companies don't want Linchpins they want sheep

Seth Godin's new
book "Linchpin" is a good read. In short the book
makes the case that you should be indispensable
and stand out to make a difference even though it
may mean "you will no longer be loved" by
coworkers and managers. On paper it's a good
argument, in reality too many organizations want
people who will do a decent job, not make waves
and do it for less money than others.
